Other Events/Programs

Here is a listing of Parent Involvement opportunities:

Room Parents (2 parents per class)
The responsibility of the room parent is to provide teachers with the assistance they need in planning and coordinating class events, field trips, parties, commencement activities, and setting up telephone tree assignments. These parents enable the teacher to spend more time focused on class projects, student needs, and curriculum.

Classroom Help (each family required to do 2 hours)
The purpose of this is to give additional help to the daily overall running of the class. The responsibilities of classroom helpers are to drive on field trips, help at class parties, and help telephone other parents about class events. Other jobs can be helping with art projects, taking care of monthly Book Club orders, xeroxing, going with class across the street to Lincoln Park, etc. Your child's teacher will have a list of things to do. Most of the class events or projects are about 1 hour credit each.

Library Program
The purpose of this program is to assist the librarians with continued building and maintenance of our library as a resource center for children, teachers, and parents. Each of our classes visits the library once a week and there are special preparations for each visit. Library helpers will catalog books, restock the library shelves, make library cards, repair books, and other specific tasks. There will be at least one library project on a Parent workday, and you will assist with the two Book Fairs held each year and with our annual Read-a-Thon Week (date to be announced).

Recycling Committee
This is a "hoped for" category. We use so many things that can be recycled and would like to participate in the local recycling efforts but we need someone really interested in this to help organize it and get the collection containers, etc.

Maintenance Helpers
The purpose of this category is to help with minor school maintenance and repairs of the indoor and outdoor environments around the school. Fixing a broken chair, replacing a light bulb, checking the plumbing, checking playground equipment, repairing doors - may be a few of the areas and that need immediate attention. The Site Director or Office Manager would notify you of the problem.

Office Help
Help with the assembling of the weekly PIE, monthly newsletters, flyers and programs for special events. Coordinate with the Parent Coordinator and the Fundraiser Coordinator.
