Pre Kindergarten 2
8:30AM-3:00PM and 8:30AM-12:30PM (4 years by December 2) High Street Only
This program is offered five days a week, full day and half day. In addition to the preschool description above, the morning focus for this program is to build language and math skills. Children meet in small groups or can work with materials around the room. As children progress in their language arts skills, they will be placed in reading groups. In the afternoons, the focus shifts to presentations on a regular schedule of science, geography, and zoology subjects. The length of the full day class allows students to establish a solid foundation for academic skills and to develop good work habits. This foundation is a good start for the transition between Preschool and our enriched Kindergarten program.
Pre Kindergarten 3 *
8:30AM-3:00PM High Street Only
This program is offered five days a week full day. The focus in this class in the morning is to continue building language arts and math skills. As children progress in their language arts skills, they will be placed in reading groups. An individual recording contract is maintained to track and account for tasks completed during this time. Small group lessons in math take place while other children are working independently on journaling, handwriting, computer and other learning activities. Special presentations and individual lessons are given. We help develop writing skills through our writing program.
In the afternoon, the focus shifts to more enrichment studies. There are Cultural study presentations in Science, Geography, Zoology, or Biology and specific follow-up activities. The full day length of Kindergarten allows students to establish and refine their academic skills in reading and comprehension, writing, critical thinking, and mathematics. Homework is introduced to the Kindergarten students as a way of reinforcing continuity between home and school while developing good study habits.
*Students in this class are 4 years by August 2 and/or have had experience in a Montessori environment or teacher recommendation prior to enrollment.
